Mother’s Milk and a Path To Testicular Cancer
Thursday, 15 October 2009 01:52

Let me preface this by saying that I am just a blogger. The Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation doesn’t necessarily endorse my commentary. This means that if you have a complaint about what I say, just take it up with me.

That being said.  A couple of weeks ago a study was reported in the Journal of Andrology about the link between breast milk and testicular cancer.

Now before you add this to your arsenal of hating your parents, listen to the reasons behind this link: Researchers in Denmark tested 68 samples of breast milk and found many endocrine disrupting chemicals; these chemicals lead to many reproductive disorders including testicular cancer (not necessarily a disorder but you know what I mean).

In the article, Niels Skakkebaek, a senior member of the research team at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen said "We were very surprised to find that some endocrine disrupting chemicals levels, including some dioxins, PCBs and some pesticides, were significantly higher in Denmark than in Finland. Our findings reinforce the view that environmental exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals may explain some of the temporal and between-country differences in incidence of male reproductive disorders."

Now you’re probably saying, “What the heck, this has nothing to do with us folks in America (or even Britain)?” Well, with all the crap we put in the air from pesticides to hair spray, and in parts of New Jersey and Staten Island Axe Body Spray, it’s no wonder that the US reports over 8,000 cases of testicular cancer compared to the less than 2,000 a year in say Finland where the grass and air are much cleaner.

All that being said, how do you think we combat this reported link between breast milk (a source of amazing vitamins and nutrients that aid in the healthy development of a child), and testicular cancer? Should expectant mother’s have their milk tested? Could be a good idea, but I’m not one to pass medical laws.

What do you folks think? Leave a comment below, I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject.  And when you’re done leaving me your thoughts, be sure to hop in the shower and check yourself out (you know what I mean).

Signs of testicular cancer
written by Jehnavi, March 18, 2010
Research at Rikshospitalet, in Oslo, shows a link between maternal weight and testicular cancer. The incidence of testicular cancer in the West has been increasing since the Fifties for unknown reasons but increased foetal exposure to oestrogen during the first trimester has been suggested as a risk factor, with heavier mothers supplying the foetus with higher levels of oestrogen.
