SEAN KIMERLING TESTICULAR CANCER FOUNDATION RAISES OVER $115,000 TO FIGHT TC WHILE HONORING BUD HARRELSON,

The foundation announced over $115,000 was raised to help fight TC. SKTCF thanks the NY METS, YANKEES, JETS and GIANTS legends, TV, Entertainment, and Radio personalities, corporations and many individuals who participated in the PIX11/Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation  8th Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament and Dinner, at Muttontown Country Club on August 4, 2011

Rich Ackerman, Ottis “OJ” Anderson, Jodi Applegate, Stephen Baker, Gary “US” Bonds, Chad Cascadden, Rich Caster, Rick Cerone, Arthur Chi’en, Mr. G., Bud Harrelson, Gil Hodges Jr, Lionel, Lolita Lopez, Jackie Martling, Curtis McGriff, Greg Mocker, Mary Murphy, Ken Schroy, Dr. Steve, Jim Watkins, Gus Williams, and others enjoyed a day of golf, lunch, dinner, live entertainment and contests at one of the region’s premier clubs. Porsche of Roslyn sponsored the “Hole in One”.

WABC-TV Director of Meteorology Bill Evans hosted the awards dinner. John Amirante sang The National Anthem and Daniel Rodriguez sang God Bless America. SKTCF honored NY METS legend Bud Harrelson and Andrew J. Friedman of AJF Financial Services, Inc. for their philanthropic efforts.

The Foundation is appreciative of the proclamation issued by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, proclaiming August 4, 2011 in New York City to be The Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation Day.

Almost every hour of every day in the United States one man will be diagnosed with testicular cancer. Testicular cancer rates are increasing every year. Almost 8500 men will be diagnosed with the disease this year.

TC is the most common cancer in men under 40. Recently published studies show the incidence of testicular cancer in men under and men over 40 is almost equal. This disease is 95 – 99% curable when diagnosed and treated in its earliest stages. Men 40 years or older who are diagnosed with the disease have twice the risk of dying of the disease than men under 40. The death rate among Hispanic men who have the disease is approximately 60% higher than White men.

SKTCF was established in memory of Sean Kimerling, the Emmy Award-winning anchor of PIX11 sports and pre-game announcer for the New York Mets. Sean died from testicular cancer on September 9, 2003. He was only 37. The Foundation was formed to raise awareness of testicular cancer and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

“Sean fought a brief, intense battle with cancer. He was unaware of his cancer until very late when severe back pain sent him to the doctor. He was a young, healthy, vibrant man, intelligent and kind … his life was cut short in its prime. This is a great opportunity to meet and play with your sports hero, re-connect with friends, network with business contacts and help us fight this disease”, said Noah Kimerling Foundation President and Founder.
