This story is not a tearjerker but rather one of hope, positivity and happiness! I am not asking for money either, I am just here to make noise while realizing one of my dream... running a marathon. Choosing a charity was not an easy task, I have never been a fan of asking for money but being accepted through the lottery eliminated any pressure of raising money in order to be able to run and I could do this in my own terms. The important thing for me is to pass my message across to my friends and family. Cancer has always been a part of my life, I have friends and family who died from the disease; the reality is that everybody knows someone that suffers from it. We feel angry, helpless with cancer patients and not much can be done except being there for them to give them love and support. In 2006 I met the man of my dreams. In 2007 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer at 31 years old, I was 3 month pregnant with our son. The symptoms were obvious and within 3 days of being diagnosed he was operated. The cancer had no time to spread and no further therapy was necessary - we were so lucky - 6 month after our son was born. Four years after there is no sign of relapse. My husband was lucky because he detected the tumor early. Testicular cancer has a rate of survival of 95-99% if detected early...if detected early...if detected early...if detected EARLY... As a mother it is my role to tell my son when the time comes that he should self-exam. We should all tell our sons, brothers, husbands, boyfriends to self-exam. Here is how: http://www.seankimerling.org/index.php/self-exam The charity I chose to support is focused on raising awareness for testicular cancer and encourages self-exam. The charity is based in Run, be happy and drink beer. Lots of love XXX SYLVIE |
