Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation Partners with UnitedHealthcare to Help Fight Testicular Cancer | Print |

The Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation proudly announced today that UnitedHealthcare is the exclusive sponsor of the SKTCF shower card program.

The best time to perform the self-exam is during or immediately after a warm shower or bath since the warm water relaxes the skin. To help spread the message facilitating young men to learn the importance of TSE, the foundation has a shower card available for distribution. The cards are a reminder of testicular cancer information and how to self-exam. The cards are available through the foundation’s website. Easy to understand, the shower card provides simple step-by-step instructions to performing a testicular self-examination. Important information for use, when attempting to reduce ones own risk, educate a friend, or loved one.

Testicular Cancer is the most common cancer in men 15 – 39 years.  In 2009, more than 8400 cases will be diagnosed.  “Almost every hour of every day one young man in the United States will be diagnosed with TC”, said R Mona Rosenman a strategic advisor to the foundation.  Rates are rising every year.   Testicular Cancer has a 95% survival rate when found and treated early.  Doctors find only 4% of TC’s … most cases will be diagnosed when men find something and seek medical advice.

The Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation was founded in 2003 in memory of Sean Kimerling who died of TC at the age of 37. The foundation has a focused mission… to raise awareness of the need for and the importance of testicular self-examination.

“Sean fought a brief, intense battle with cancer. He was unaware of his cancer until very late when severe back pain sent him to the doctor. He was a young, healthy, vibrant man, intelligent and kind … his life was cut short in its prime”, said Noah Kimerling Foundation President and Founder.  “The Foundation’s goal is that all men will have the information they need about the disease, its symptoms and what to do about them so that more cases will be diagnosed early, and lives saved.  We are grateful and appreciative that UnitedHealthcare, the largest single health carrier in the United States, has joined with us to fight this terrible disease.”
